Project One
Self Portrait

For this assignment you will be creating self portrait icon/symbol. This should depict you as a person rather than an object representation. You will create a highly stylized and simplified self-portrait or icon. Each of you should think about how best to represent yourself in an icon. Faces are generally made up of similar parts but how can you use these pieces to emphasize specific features to create a self portrait that is uniquely you.

This should work at both large and small sizes so limit your detail to only there essential elements. It should also work in one color and have high contrast. Especially at small sizes you will need to exaggerate features and simplify elements in order for it to read as you.

This will be a quick assignment focused on getting us going this semester.

FINAL DELIVERABLES:
  • (1) 11”x17” Digital PDF

The board should be split into two sides. One side should show the portrait in high contrast and the other side should show it in reverse. (For example side (1) would be a black portrait on a white background and side (2) would be a white portrait on a black background.) Your welcome to use colors instead of black and white but make sure your color combination has enough contrast.

  • 11”x17” Digital Illustrator File (Going to be looking at these to see construction make sure the file has been finalized correctly.)
