New York Times Magazine Art

Designing a cover is an exercise in creating visual concept and narrative. You will need to concept and develop both a cover an interior art for an issue of the magazine. Find an existing article / feature story to use for this project about a topic that you find interesting.

Research / Concept Mapping / Word Lists / Etc. (Concept is king here!) Go deep and beyond the obvious. You will thank yourself when you start sketching. 

Design this research in a presentable way to present to your peers. Look for ways to present / summarize what you learn in your research and concept mapping. Also come up with 1-2 sentence concept statement. We will use this throughout the project to center design exploration.

(3) Moodboards for style and concept for your art. Think about how can tease your article without giving everything away? Also think beyond visualls here. How can you connect conceptually?

Narrow to final cover direction and build out fully. Explore visual style / scale / typography / etc.

Start moving best (10) spot art concepts into the computer. How can you  create these to be similar to the cover but slightly more simple so they can scale?
