Family Crest

A quick project to get us started this semester. Creating a crest is an exercise in storytelling and symbolism. What symbols represent your family? How can you use existing symbols or create your own? How do you subvert symbols to change their meaning?

A crest needs to be unique and memorable as well as work at both large and small sizes. The emphasis for this project will be on construction and rendering. 

These marks should work at both large and small sizes and in one color.

These deliverables will focus on ideation / sketching and creating your crest in the computer using proper construction.

Process Book (Digital PDF) (Keepfile size under 150 MB)

13x19 Poster (Digital PDF) (Show both large and small sizes)

13x19 Poster Breaking down elements / storytelling

Digital AI document with all final symbols properly finalized.

Create a list of traits/symbols/etc and use any form of list making / concept mapping you would like to create basis for your crest.

Build a one page document (11”x17”) that presents your research for your classmates. What is important to communicate here? Also create a moodboard of potential symbols or attributes. Pull undesigned elements for this stage and focus on the content.
